Seasonal hair loss in autumn mapped on Google trends

Posted by Alice Thick Hair on

The search term "Hair loss" has been mapped as appearing on Google trends, at a higher rate during the autumn months of October and November. The study was captured from Google trends over a period of 12 years and covered eight countries, spanning four hemispheres. The results are ground breaking as previous studies have only focused on one geological area.

Here in the UK, summer sun is short lived, but the longer day light hours can have a radical impact on the volume of hair, triggering hair to be thicker, Swedish studies reveal that increase in hair growth is perhaps to cover the head from UV rays / sunburn, and as the weather cools down, this process is reversed and seasonal hair shredding can be quite noticeable.

Not to alarmed, seasonal hair loss is quite different to male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness and some seasonal shedding in the fall is quite acceptable. It is interesting that the Google trends has also identified that mammals in general are affected in this way. Research is ongoing, however data analysis provides a fascinating study into more than one geographical area, across northern and southern hemispheres.
